Home-Improvement Television

A “hooked on” take on the Bravo’s “Flipping Out” show.

As the market slowing down rehabs (vs. teardowns) could become more cost effective. I don’t understand though, why people are paying that much money for those essentially cosmetic renovations. What about outdated electric, plumbing, insufficient insulation, presence of asbestos, lead paint, termites, cracked foundations? The list goes on.  And I’m not even talking about having a usable basement. Must be a reflection off a shiny 48″ Viking in the kitchen that makes the buyers blind. Is it a California thing?

I have to admit that I watch home-improvement TV too. Actually, it is only TV I watch.

    1. In my post titled, “Razing vs Rebuilding”, I had discussed the agony I experienced with rehabbing room by room, and although in the end things turned out very nice, (for the most part) I wish I could have done a teardown.

I can also say that I have been a little surprised at just how much focus is put on building aesthetics rather than quality sometimes. I had a couple last year that were constantly bickering when we went to look at new construction in Greenwich. The husband was most concerned with resale value & building quality, and the wife wanted to look at cheaply built houses with nice kitchens and paint colors.

I have to say I don’t think it is just a California thing - we have the blind here in Greenwich also…
